The government legalized it. Then taxed it to death.

OH cannabis, OH cannabis.”

“The industry was born here. It should thrive here”.

“But unless Ottawa wakes up, it won’t survive here.”

Oh Cannabis! Oh Cannabis! Oh Cannabis!

Remember when Canada was the first G7 country to legalize cannabis?

We were the trailblazers. The world watched as we rolled out a bold new industry built on safety, innovation, and opportunity.

The world applauded… then scratched its head at what came next.

  • Legal businesses are closing by the hundreds.

  • Billions in capital have gone up in smoke.

  • Jobs are vanishing faster than a politician’s promise.

  • And the illicit market? Thriving. Thanks for asking.

Turns out, legalization was just the opening act. What followed was a masterclass in how to overtax, overregulate, and underdeliver on a once-in-a-generation opportunity.

So what happened?

Instead of nurturing the sector, the government slapped on sky-high taxes, banned meaningful marketing, buried operators in paperwork, and then acted surprised when the whole thing started to collapse.

Meanwhile, other countries looked at Canada’s idea—and just did it better.

  • WHY NOT CANADA FIRST?

Scared of making money and appearing like show offs?

  • WHY NOT CANADA FIRST?

Prefer to become a cannabis banana republic and funnel profits to American oligarchs?

  • WHY NOT CANADA FIRST?

It’s easier to just collect taxes and profits from government monopolies.

  • WHY NOT CANADA FIRST?

Was the creation of a dynamic new industry just too much work to think about?

We’re not asking for handouts.

We’re asking for a fighting chance.

Here’s how we fix it:

Tax smarter:

Replace the per-gram tax with a scalable, fair system. Cannabis isn’t caviar—stop taxing it like it is.

Back Canadian cannabis abroad:

Stop hiding the industry like it’s a shameful secret. We should be exporting, not apologizing.

Let legal operators compete:

Allow branding, education, and basic consumer engagement. The black market doesn’t play by the rules—and right now, they’re winning.

Treat cannabis like the industry it is:

One that generates revenue, jobs, innovation, and real public health benefits.

Ditch the duplicative nonsense:

Harmonize federal and provincial regulations so businesses can focus on growth, not filling out forms.

Act like it matters:

Because it does—to workers, communities, and the economy.

We could have led the world.

But instead, we let red tape and political cowardice kill our advantage.

Let’s Work Together.

It’s time to stop punishing legal businesses for playing by the rules. Join us in demanding real reform.
